Recruitment 'should not be affected by immigration limits'

Recruitment 'should not be affected by immigration limits'Recruitment and the ability for businesses to obtain the right level of skilled employees when necessary should not be affected by immigration caps, if one expert's comments are anything to go by.

Mark Swift is media relations manager for manufacturers' organisation EEF and said it was important for the government to work in consultation with the corporate world so that a suitable amount of flexibility is built into any legislation regarding immigration.

"Clearly there is so much speculation as to what limits are to be introduced - we need to see the details, really," he remarked.

The comments follow an announcement by home secretary Theresa May in recent days, who said that net migration will be scaled back from hundreds of thousands to tens of thousands.

Confederation of British Industry deputy director-general John Cridland welcomed the government's decision to consult on the matter and said it is essential to enable highly-skilled workers the chance to achieve permits.
