SMEs 'could benefit from blogging' Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been advised by an expert to take full advantage of the business benefits offered by creating a blog.

A report entitled The Engaged Web by EPiServer released last week (June 22nd) stated that while 40 per cent of firms now have blogs on their websites, 34 per cent of these are updated regularly and less than one-fifth - 19 per cent - of all brands currently advertise their blog elsewhere on their website.

Meanwhile, a seminar given by the Chartered Institute of Marketing recently stated that blogs are an ideal way for SMEs to achieve maximum impact on their target audience while also providing a solid indicator of how a company's website is performing in terms of attracting internet traffic.

However, despite these benefits, Nick Baggott, founder of digital marketing company Navigate Consultancy, has remarked that many SMEs are failing to optimise their potential through easy-to-manage blogs.

"Blogs are dynamic and can be quickly and easily updated without the need for great expertise and this is of particular benefit to small businesses," he said.
