Acas publishes Equality Act guidelines for employersGuidelines to help businesses in the City of London and beyond cope with the changes that are to be implemented by the new Equality Act were published last week (July 9th).

Acas has produced a document entitled The Equality Act -What's New for Employers? is intended to demonstrate what the alterations to the law - which will come into effect in October - mean in practice for businesses such as SMEs.

There has previously been some confusion among human resources professionals as to how these changes will affect their workplace, but Acas's report is designed to provide clear and simple guidance on what measures need to be taken in order to avoid contravening any new laws.

For example, the advisory body outlines the fact that most employers will no longer be able to send out questionnaires regarding a candidate's personal health before an interview.

Meanwhile, the Chartered Management Institute stated last week that British companies are currently too inflexible in their recruitment policies to ensure that they maximise the potential of both current and future members of staff.
