Increasing numbers of employment opportunities in private sector companies in the City of London and across the country will not completely cushion the blow of governmental spending cuts, an expert has said.During a speech to an exhibition of investors and finance directors run by Peach Network, Andrew Smith, chief economist at KPMG, indicated that the government has gambled on its spending plans working smoothly, HR Magazine reports. The expert added that business development through increased numbers of jobs being available in the private arena should be boosted further by the fact that unemployment levels and company insolvencies have not been as pronounced throughout recent times as in previous recessionary periods. However, Mr Smith warned that "there is no plan B" should the coalition's plans for the public sector - which involve shedding more than £6.2 billion from the spending bill before next April - fail. Meanwhile, Acas published guidelines for employers to help them handle the changes being brought in October about by the Equality Act effectively and efficiently last week (July 9th).
