Minister urges flexible working to cut traffic congestionA Liberal Democrat transport minister is to urge employers in the City of London and beyond to allow their members of staff to work one day per two weeks from home, it was revealed over the weekend (July 10th).

During an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Norman Baker stated that he wants to take the step - which would affect companies in the West End and East End - in order to reduce unnecessary traffic congestion on Britain's roads.

The minister said that incentives could be introduced as part of the plan that will encourage flexible working, such as persuading train companies to change their season ticket plans to ensure that people spending a proportion of their working week at home do not lose out financially for doing so.

"The kind of initiatives I'm working on will do away with the rush hour," added the official.

Meanwhile, Mike Petrook of the Chartered Institute for Management said recently that companies refusing to embrace flexible working could be missing out on the opportunity to maximise their staff output.
