Finance jobs in London

Finance jobs in London are sure to start to become more widely available, many experts agree.

Ever since the Lehman Brothers' banking collapse, finance jobs in most sectors of the country's employment market have struggled to return to their pre-recession levels of fluidity.

And few areas suffered as much as finance jobs in Central London as the world's banking system endured a period of economic downturn the likes of which had not been seen since the Great Depression.

Good news for older workers

However, a report by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) suggests that employment prospects for professionals in the capital, along with the rest of Britain, are picking up.

Indeed, the CBI's Ready to Grow: Business Priorities for Education and Skills publication hints at the fact that there may not be enough people with the right skills to successfully fill the amount of vacancies that will become available in the near future.

Over half of the 694 companies questioned in the report indicated that they felt they might not be able to find the right candidate for their jobs because the competition for the most talented jobseekers will be so fierce.

"As we move further into recovery and businesses plan for growth, the demand for people with high-quality skills and qualifications will intensify," said CBI director-general Richard Lambert.

Meanwhile, even better news for older jobseekers is the results of Friends Provident and the Future Foundation's Visions of Britain 2020 study, which was published in May.

This indicates that workers between the ages of 55 and 70 will become the most in-demand age group for employers in the UK over the next ten years as experience and knowledge are firms' most sought-after qualities as they seek to play it safe with recruitment policies.

Therefore, the trends of the job market in Britain seen over recent times - where young and up-and-coming graduate candidates have been favoured in selection processes - could be about to reverse.
