Official figures released today (July 14th) show that the unemployment level in the City of London and throughout the country fell during the three month period leading up to May 2010. In a sign that the country's jobs market is on the road to recovery following the global economic downturn, the number of unemployed people in Britain over the course of the quarter was down by 34,000 to a total of 2.47 million, according to the Office of National Statistics. This figure is likely to rise again when the government's public sector spending cuts come into effect, but private sector job opportunities may continue to rise. Meanwhile, the data also shows that those people who have been unemployed for a long period are dropping in numbers, as the total number of citizens who have been without work for up to six months fell by 54,000. In related news, HR Magazine reported earlier this week that the chief economist at KPMG had warned the government over its spending cuts. Posted by Daniel Frost
