Jobs market recovery 'could happen by 2013'Confidence in the jobs market in the City of London and throughout Britain could be restored within the next three years as the effects of the global economic downturn begin to wear off, an expert has said.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics released yesterday (July 14th) show that the number of people in employment in the country went up by 160,000 throughout the last quarter.

This rise was predominantly driven by a 117,000-rise in the part-time arena, as well as an increase of 59,000 in people who classify themselves as self-employed.

Therefore, despite the anticipated knock-on impact of the government's planned cuts of more than £6.2 billion in the public sector, the country may experience returning optimism in the employment arena by 2013.

"I think it is going to be three to five years from now, so 2013 to 2015, before we start to see real confidence returning in the employment market," said Mr Flaxton.
