Engagement is key in the workplace, report statesNew research has found that employers - both in the City of London and further afield - are not engaging their members of staff correctly in the changing business environment following the global economic downturn.

According to the Training Foundation's White Paper on employee engagement, the strategies many companies use to facilitate this internal policy are not suited to maximising the potential of their staff.

Engagement in the workplace involves how managers are able to work alongside their employees so as to get the most out of their members of staff. The report states that there is a "proven correlation" between the technique and the performance of a workforce.

The research concludes that the most important factor behind engagement is a trusting relationship between a worker and their immediate manager. Also crucial is the atmosphere of the workplace, in so far as a comfortable and friendly environment in which to work is valued highly by most people.

Meanwhile, the Chartered Management Institute stated recently that businesses must be prepared to adapt their internal rules and regulations after the recession.
