Experts call on businesses to stop sending health questionnairesBusinesses such as SMEs in the City of London and beyond should stop using pre-employment health questionnaires as soon as possible in order to minimise the risk of breaking new regulations underlined in the Equality Act.

That is according to legal firm Pannone, which found in a survey of more than 100 human resources directors that around two-thirds of organisations distribute such documents as a matter of course before deciding whether to offer a prospective candidate an available job.

However, as of October, law will dictate that employers can no longer ask people about their personal health other than in some limited circumstances.

Therefore, Pannone stated that it may be a good idea for firms to get out of the habit of doing this sooner rather than later so as to avoid any subsequent legal issues.

Meanwhile, official figures released last week show that the country's unemployment rate fell during the quarter leading up to May 2010.
