Report: Government must help small businessesA new report released today (July 20th) has stated that the government must do more in order to stimulate expansion among businesses such as a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME).

According to the Federation of Small Business' (FSB's) Voice of Small Business Index, confidence and sentiment among companies in the City of London and beyond ebbed away slightly over the course of the second quarter of 2010, which suggests that the country's recovery following the global economic downturn remains fragile.

Therefore, following a survey of more than 1,200 of its members, the FSB has called on the authorities to extend the National Insurance holiday to all firms in the UK - including those in the East End and West End of the capital city.

John Walker, national chairman of the FSB, commented: "We encourage the government to support small businesses to grow and expand."

Meanwhile, Kathleen Hall of Smallbusinesses.co.uk said recently that people looking to set up their own company in the UK should still be able to gain the necessary funding to do so, despite the recession.
