Government 'will encourage business investment'Business secretary Vince Cable yesterday (July 20th) insisted that the government will seek to aid investment companies in the City of London in the coming years.

According to a document written by the business secretary - which is entitled A Strategy for Sustainable Growth - the government is determined to ensure that the correct balance is struck between making the necessary cuts in areas such as public spending and encouraging sustainable growth in the country's financial markets.

Mr Cable stated that the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills is currently striving to ensure that the country's fiscal recovery occurs as quickly as possible in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.

He added that the government wants to make sure that Britain's period of re-expansion following the recession takes place on a "sustainable footing".

Meanwhile, Kathleen Hall of Smallbusinesses.co.uk commented earlier this week that SME finance can still be secured despite the nation's economic troubles.
