LBRO 'should help SME businesses, not be scrapped'A performance review of the Local Better Regulation Office (LBRO) is a positive step, but the body should not be scrapped altogether, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has said.

The FSB, which represents firms such as SMEs in the City of London and across the country, believes that the role of the LBRO is in need of updating and revamping, but remains concerned that the forthcoming governmental review on the organisation could lead to "this vital regulatory burden-busting body" being disbanded.

Research conducted by the FSB has found that one-third of all small firms in the UK feel that regulation is the biggest obstacle to growth and financial expansion their business faces in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.

And the LBRO is crucial to helping reduce the size of this barrier, John Walker, national chairman of the FSB, remarked.

Meanwhile, Andrew Hubbard, immediate past president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, has said that tax laws in Britain are destabilising the recovery of many of its small businesses.
