Retirement age rise 'should be reconsidered'People searching for mature office recruitment opportunities in the City of London and beyond may be interested to note that an expert has said that increasing the pension age to 68 in the near future would not be beneficial.

During an interview published in the Daily Mail earlier this week (July 19th), the secretary of state for work and pensions, Iain Duncan Smith, revealed that the government feels that the retirement age is likely to reach 68 by 2038.

"The current plan to raise it to 68, we think [this] could be accelerated. It seems silly to wait," commented the minister.

However, according to Robin Ellison, head of strategic development for law firm Pinsent Masons, the current pensions system for workers in roles such as accountancy jobs and finance jobs in London is unsustainable.

Mr Ellison confirmed that he objects to these plans and added that any forthcoming rise on the pension age should be offset somewhat by the introduction of flexible retirement so "people don't need to work five days a week at 65".
