SME firms 'vital for economic recovery'SME businesses in the City of London and across the nation have a big role to play in the country's fiscal recovery following the global economic downturn, an expert has said.

According to Emyr Williams, director at Bytestart.co.uk, the UK is now beginning to emerge from the recession as the government's austerity measures are introduced to reduce the budget deficit and stimulate business growth.

And "turning around the economy and tackling the enormous deficit" could be heavily influenced by the country's smaller firms, he went on to state.

Mr Williams' comments came after the publication of Bibby's latest Business Factors Index report last week (July 26th), which found that nearly three-quarters - 73 per cent - of SME companies feel positive about their current trading conditions, which represents an increase on the figure of 63 per cent posted for the first quarter of 2010.

The expert concluded that small businesses may be crucial to "stoke the engine of the economic recovery".
