Older workers 'must be allowed flexibility' Older workers in roles such as business development jobs in the City of London must be afforded greater flexibility in both their workplace and the type of job they are offered, an expert has said.

According to Mike Emmott, public policy advisor at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the attitude of the nation's older generation towards working is changing.

Mr Emmott's comments come after the recent publication of research by HSBC, which showed that more than half - 55 per cent - of all older workers across the country's many different sectors expect to never be in a financial position comfortable enough to warrant retiring completely.

Meanwhile, the study also reveals that more senior employees are now deciding to change careers in later life, with around 30 per cent of over 50s indicating they have done so.

"We certainly are seeing an increase in the numbers of older workers choosing to work for longer," the expert stated.
