Expert anticipates interest rate freezePeople in finance jobs in London and throughout the rest of the UK might be interested to note that an expert has said he expects the country's interest rates to remain the same for the foreseeable future.

Michael Baxter, editor of Investment and Business News, believes that the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will decide to keep the base rate at 0.5 per cent when it meets to discuss the issue this week.

If this proves to be the case, it will represent a record 17th month in succession when the nation's interest rate has stayed the same, as the MPC seeks to help the UK's economy get back on its feet following the global economic downturn.

And Mr Baxter believes this is the most likely outcome of its upcoming meeting, despite the fact that figures published by the Office for National Statistics last month showed that the country's gross domestic product had grown by 1.1 per cent over the second quarter of the year.
