Firms 'should invest more time in management training'Companies such as SME firms in the City of London and across the rest of the UK must be willing to spend more time and effort on enhancing the management skills of their workforces, an expert has said.

According to Mike Petrook, head of public affairs at the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), firms involved in such sectors such as finance jobs in London should look to ensure that their senior members of staff are professionally accredited in their management roles.

This is because British businesses invest less than their continental counterparts in the idea of developing and honing the talents of leaders within their organisation, he added, which may lead to disputes within a workplace becoming more prominent.

Mr Petrook's comments come after the recent publication of data from the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development, which found that many employees do not receive coaching and feedback from their boss.

"In the UK just one in five managers are professionally qualified," he concluded.
