SME firms 'not directly affected' by central government spending cutsSME businesses in the City of London and across the rest of the UK will not feel a major impact from the government's national financial policy initiatives, two experts have agreed.

According to Federation of Small Businesses' (FSB's) head of policy and Tim Campbell, founder of Bright Ideas, smaller firms in the UK will not be massively influenced by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance's commitment to reducing the nation's estimated budgetary deficit of more than £140 billion.

Mr Campbell, a former winner of the entrepreneurial television show The Apprentice, commented that "cuts in public spending are not going to affect them [small companies] directly" because these organisations are not in a position to bid for government contracts.

Speaking at the T-Mobile Small Business Roundtable Debate, which took place last week (August 4th) and sought to discuss the key issues facing these companies in terms of driving growth after the recession, Mr Cave added that reductions in outlay from local governments were more likely to impact on small businesses.
