New figures published today show that the number of people in employment in the City of London and across the rest of the UK increased throughout June.According to the Office for National Statistics, the rate of those between the ages of 16 and 63 in jobs nationwide was 70.5 per cent, a figure which represents a 0.3 per cent rise on the statistics posted for the entire quarter. In what may be seen as a sign that the country's jobs market is on the road to recovery following the global economic downturn, the number of adults in employment rose by 184,000 on the quarter during the month to reach a national total of 29.02 million. This is the largest three-monthly hike in jobs figures for more than 20 years and is also significantly higher than the statistics recorded for last year. Meanwhile, recent research conducted by HSBC found that more than half of people working over the age of 50 expect to never retire fully from their jobs. Posted by James Strang
