| Government: Employment levels 'increased in second quarter' |

Employment in roles such as finance jobs in London increased in the second quarter of this year, new figures have revealed.According to the Office for National Statistics, the employment rate for people aged 16 to 64 across jobs in all sectors in the City of London and the rest of the UK went up by 0.4 per cent in the three-month period to July in comparison with the first quarter of 2010. Some 286,000 jobseekers found roles throughout the three-month timeframe, which means that the total employment level in Britain is up 301,000 on the year. This figure consists of 221,000 males and 65,000 females, while the amount of people finding part-time work rose at its highest quarterly level since records began in 1992. In addition, the country's unemployment rate dropped by 0.1 per cent in the quarter, which is a possible indication that the UK's job market is beginning to emerge from the effects of the recession despite widespread government cuts on public services.
