Businesses such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the City of London and throughout the rest of the country are having their chances of securing a more skilled workforce limited by the government. That is according to a spokesman for the Trades Union Congress (TUC), who has said that any cutbacks on training grants for employers implemented by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance could serve to lower the standard of staff in any given organisation. The expert was speaking following the publication of a report by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) earlier this week (September 20th), which stated that the authorities should focus on reducing spending in other areas and protect investment in the sectors that can play a major role in regenerating economic growth. Meanwhile, the CBI also asserted that a sustainable recovery could be aided by additional funds being poured into infrastructure and research in the UK. Posted by Mary King
