SMEs 'reaping the benefits of offering flexible working'Many businesses such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the City of London and throughout the rest of the UK have adopted flexible working practices following the global economic downturn.

That is according to new research conducted by telecommunications company Orange, which found that nearly nine in ten businesses - 88 per cent - in Britain now offer the opportunity to work away from the traditional office environment, with many indicating that this is much better suited to their lifestyle.

It seems that this has proved popular among employees, as around three-quarters - 74 per cent - stated that they are now choosing to work flexibly or from home, meaning that organisations may be benefiting from the increased productivity that a more satisfied workforce can provide.

SME marketing director at Everything Everywhere - which was formed in July when Orange and T-Mobile joined forces - Martin Lyne commented: "This research highlights that SME owners are able to work when it suits them and make the most of their free time."
