Employers 'beginning to get to grips with auto-enrolment' New research has shown that companies offering roles such as accountancy jobs in the City of London are beginning to come to terms with the forthcoming introduction of the auto-enrolment pension scheme.

According to a study conducted by Mercer, more than two-thirds - 68 per cent - of respondents indicated that they have started planning for its implementation.

Around the same number also admitted that they had temporarily stopped their preparations in anticipation of the government's review of the initiative, which was announced by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance on June 24th.

However, a further 86 per cent stated that they have not yet established whether or not their existing pension scheme qualifies under the new rules and over a fifth - 21 per cent - of employers are planning to allow a period of six months to fully apply the changes.

And Claire Ross, head of service implementation in Mercer's outsourcing business, stated that this is "a very short timescale for this process".
