Government implements new Equality Act employer provisionsCompanies offering roles such as finance jobs in London will now have to abide by new employment legislation introduced today (October 1st) in order to avoid legal issues.

That is because the majority of the provisions listed under the government's 2010 Equality Act are implemented into British law, which is intended to herald a new era of improved equality and worker rights in the country's jobs sector.

For example, the adoption of a measure designed to stop secrecy clauses being included in contracts to hide any differences between the wages of male and female employees is now a legal requirement for organisations in a bid to stamp out the issue of pay discrimination.

Approximately 90 per cent of the Bill - which has amalgamated nine different pieces of previous law - comes into effect today, with the remainder to be implemented by the government in the near future.

Meanwhile, recent research conducted by Mercer found that 68 per cent of employers have begun the process of adapting to the forthcoming auto-enrolment pension scheme.
