Many SMEs 'back public spending cuts' The majority of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the City of London and throughout the rest of the UK support the government's public spending cuts.

That is according to research conducted by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), which has found that nearly three-quarters - 74 per cent - of the nation's smaller organisations feel that tackling the UK's budget deficit can be done effectively by reducing the amount being spent on public services.

Furthermore, some 60 per cent of respondents to the FSB's Voice of Small Business survey indicated that they would back further reductions in this area on top of the £6.2 billion the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance has said it hopes to save before next April.

John Walker, national chairman of the FSB, commented that "business growth must be a priority" if the government is to follow through on its assertion that the country's economic recovery should be "enterprise-led".
