Employers 'set to embrace transparency under new Equality Act'Employers in the City of London and throughout the rest of the UK are moving into a period of greater openness with regards to their internal policies on members of staff.

That is according to Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, who has said that the implementation of the first part of the Equality Act 2010 last week (October 1st) should help workers to make sure they are paid fairly from now on.

Under the new government guidelines, previously legal practices such as pay secrecy clauses are not allowed, which Mr Flaxton believes may herald a new time period whereby equality is embraced more readily by organisations.

"There is a greater desire for transparency now and the secrecy which has existed for a number of decades … is becoming indicative of a bygone era," he remarked.

Around 90 per cent of the Equality Act came into effect in British law last week and the legislation will also see new procedures introduced on issues such as employment tribunals.
