REC: Increasing demand for ICT specialists to fill office jobsA growing number of people have been filling office jobs working in ICT during recent months, according to new figures.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) notes demand for people with computer skills has continued to rise over the last quarter.

Compared with the previous three-month period, the number of permanent vacancies was up by eight per cent and there was also an 11 per cent rise in positions for contractors.

"This report confirms our view that the IT sector remains healthy and demand continues to grow. In several skill areas, we will continue to experience shortage of supply," explains Jeff Brooks, chair of REC Technology.

It is the fourth consecutive quarter in which the number of ICT jobs, perhaps including those in IT software sales recruitment, has risen.

Maggie Berry, managing director of womenintechnology.co.uk, recently suggested the ICT market is in desperate need of more female staff to join its ranks.
