Apprenticeships are just as effective for those seeking mature-aged jobs as they are for young workers looking to pick up new skills, an expert has suggested.Shagufta Mustafa, spokeswoman for the National Apprenticeship Services, said the current high level of demand for apprentices shows businesses recognise the advantages of the schemes. "We must not leave behind adults who also want to take up that chance for new training and employment," she warned. One benefit of signing up to an apprenticeship is the opportunity to learn new skills and broaden a CV, which could make it easier to find a mature-aged job. Ms Mustafa added the temporary work projects are a high-quality way to learn in a practical environment. Earlier this week, Age UK obtained statistics from the Skills Funding Agency that revealed a growing number of over-50s are enrolling on apprenticeships, with the total more than doubling since 2007 to over 5,000.
