Mature office jobs holders 'let age discrimination go unchallenged'Those with mature office jobs may be letting age discrimination go unchallenged, as a consortium has said that people are least likely to seek help when faced with prejudices such as this.

According to the Working Together for Advice Coalition - made up of AdviceUK, the Advice Services Alliance, Age UK, Youth Access, the Law Centres Federation and Citizens Advice - one in three who experience this take no action against it.

As part of Advice Week 2010 and in order to tackle the fact that two-thirds wanted to act against discrimination but felt they were unable to, the group has launched a short film emphasising people's rights in relation to such matters.

Charity director of Age UK Michelle Mitchell noted that ageism is the most common form of prejudice in the UK, adding that it is often not taken seriously or recognised.

The new Equality Act could also prove to be of assistance, with Phil Flaxton of Work Wise UK stating that employers in the City of London and elsewhere in the country will be moving into a period of greater openness in terms of internal policies.ADNFCR-3012-ID-800109449-ADNFCR
