£1.5bn SME funding 'might not be enough' Businesses such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offering accountancy jobs may require more funding than the current £1.5 billion being promised by the UK's major banks, an expert has said.

According to Michael Baxter, editor of online resource Investment and Business News, the recent announcement by the British Bankers' Association's (BBA) Business Finance Taskforce that it will provide this amount of capital for smaller firms may be insufficient following the recession.

"£1.5 billion is still quite small - I would be a lot more excited if you put a nought at the end of that," he commented.

Mr Baxter went on to say that the Bank of England will potentially play a major role in the regeneration of the nation's business sector after the recession, as it could follow the BBA's lead by "putting some of its money from quantitative easing into a scheme of this nature", which would help companies to grow more robustly.
