Employers 'can opt for older candidates for fresh ideas' Employers offering positions such as accountancy jobs in the City of London should seriously consider opting for older candidates when seeking to instil new blood into their organisation.

That is according to Rachel Krys, campaign director for the Employers Forum on Age (EFA), who has said that there should be a shift in attitude among many bosses toward hiring more experienced people when they want to freshen up their workforce.

Ms Krys stated that there is currently a "real mindset that employers struggle with" when it comes to recruiting older people and many are "still very reluctant" to do so.

And the expert believes this may primarily be down to the fact that bosses are often of the misguided opinion that young people will bring new and inventive ideas with them.

"Sometimes you just need to bring in a bit of different thinking and that's usually by having a diversity of people," she added.

Her comments came after the publication of data by the Age and Employment Network, which found that the number of economically inactive older people is growing.
