People in roles such as finance jobs in London within the public sector may be among the best-placed workers to get re-employed in the private sector should they be made redundant, an expert has said.During his comprehensive spending review speech given last week (October 20th), chancellor George Osborne announced that some 490,000 jobs in the public sector would be cut as the government seeks to recoup some of its budget deficit. However, Peter Reilly, director of human resources (HR) research and consultancy at the Institute for Employment Studies (IES), has said that demand for workers with a strong all-round skill set is likely to be high in the private arena in the near future, meaning that those losing their jobs may walk straight into another role. Mr Reilly commented that employees "with generic skills - people in HR, people in finance, people in project management" have the best chance to get another job as there is "a reasonable amount of crossover" between these public and private environments.
