SMEs 'should benefit from LEP scheme'Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK will benefit from the launch of a new business scheme in the UK, an organisation has stated.

According to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the announcement that the first 24 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) are to go ahead is welcome news for the country's financial sector.

It went on to state that the foremost priority for these companies and the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance must be to encourage greater growth among SMEs and ensure that these organisations are at the heart of local communities across the nation following the global economic downturn.

Mike Cherry, policy chairman of the FSB, commented that he is "delighted" to see these inaugural LEPs being given the green light, but added that it is now "vital" for them to "follow through on their promise" to involve SMEs in their upcoming proposals.

This comes after a study by Bibby Financial Services revealed that SME turnover has reached its highest level since before the recession.
