Employers 'need help over red tape'The government must do more to help businesses such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by reducing the amount of legislative red tape surrounding them following the recession.

That is the view of Alistair Tebbit, spokesman for the Insitute of Directors (IoD), who has said that the country's employment law is currently too restrictive for companies of all sizes to encourage expansion in the aftermath of the downturn.

Mr Tebbit commented that there has been "gradual growth" in awareness among the authorities about the importance of employment law over the last ten to 15 years, which was "encouraged" by the previous administration.

However, he added that the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance is seemingly backtracking on its pledge to continue this trend.

"The current government, although it has said it is going to stop the increase in red tape, unfortunately appears to be doing the opposite," he said.

This follows on from David Cameron's appointment of Lord Young as the coalition's new enterprise advisor last week (November 1st).
