Businesses 'must strive to adopt ecommerce' Organisations such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offering accountancy jobs must be willing to adapt to the changing business climate in Britain in the 21st century.

That is according to David Smith, managing director of the Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG), who has said that it is essential for all types of firms to have a strong understanding of the importance of ecommerce if they are to maximise their potential in the modern environment.

Mr Smith commented that ecommerce is "an opportunity for businesses to become more efficient", which therefore opens up new markets for them as they seek to expand in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.

His remarks came after an announcement by the Boston Consulting Group last month (October 28th 2010) which stated that the online economy contributed the equivalent of 7.2 per cent of the UK's gross domestic product throughout 2009, meaning that the upward trend of online transactions looks set to continue.
