| SMEs showing 'surprising support' for pension reforms |

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the City of London and throughout the rest of the UK seem to be coming to terms with the demands of the forthcoming implementation of auto-enrolment pension schemes. That is if research conducted by Personnel Management is anything to go by, as the news publication has learned that many SMEs have now accepted that the introduction of auto-enrolment is required in the post-recession business landscape. Indeed, several firms indicated their belief that the process may be made more comfortable if it was made compulsory for all companies, without exceptions. These reforms to the pension system are scheduled to get underway in 2012 and there has been plenty of speculation as to the effect they will have on the nation's SMEs. However, Steve Herbert, head of benefits strategy for pensions minister and MP for Thornbury and Yate Steve Webb, told the news source that there is now a "surprising" amount of support among these organisations for the changes.
