Research: Many SMEs confident about 2011 Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offering roles such as finance jobs in London will undoubtedly be one of the primary catalysts behind the UK's recovery following the global economic downturn.

That is according to a new study conducted by Barclays Business and the Kingston University Small Business Research Centre, which has found that more than half of all such firms - 56 per cent - feel that they will experience increased profits over the duration of 2011.

In addition, employment opportunities with SMEs are also likely to increase in volume, as many are also seeking to expand their workforce with 35 per cent indicating their willingness to enter new markets in the coming 12 months.

Furthermore, investment remains high on the priority list for SMEs, with 66 per cent stating their intention to at least maintain their levels of innovative spending.

This comes after research by Personnel Management found that many smaller organisations are now getting used to the idea of implementing auto-enrolment pension schemes.
