Employers 'beginning to go green' Employers offering office-based roles such as finance jobs in London are beginning to embrace the benefits of eco-friendly internal policies, a specialist has said.

According to John Barwise, chairman of the Cumbria Green Business Forum, many companies are now moving away from the belief that "environmental issues represent some sort of inconvenience" they have to deal with to satisfy shareholders in favour of a greener stance in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.

"Greenhouse gas emissions reporting shows where energy savings can be made which help to reduce overheads, improve business performance and protect the bottom line," he added.

Mr Barwise was speaking following the publication of a document by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs last week (November 30th 2010), which found that firms willing to be environmentally-friendly are reaping the benefits through having a better relationship with their clients, as well as saving cash.
