SMEs 'planning to recruit more in 2011' Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the UK offering roles such as accountancy jobs are planning to recruit more staff in 2011, new research has shown.

According to a study conducted by telecommunications company Orange, more than one quarter - 26 per cent - of all such firms want to hire a greater volume of staff in 2011 than they did this year, meaning that confidence is seemingly returning following the global economic downturn.

This survey - which involved questioning more than 2,100 SMEs in Britain - also found that the majority of these organisations are feeling confident about the forthcoming 12 months, with 76 per cent stating that they expect to experience a more profitable year than in 2010.

Martin Lyne, SME marketing director at Everything Everywhere, commented: "It’s great to see that businesses are positive about next year."

This correlates with the findings of a study by Barclays Business and the Kingston University Small Business Research Centre, which found that more than half of all small firms - 56 per cent - feel that they will enjoy a prosperous 2011.
