Employers 'need to engage staff following the recession' Employers offering office-based roles such as finance jobs in London should look to engage with their staff as they seek to minimise their costs following the global economic downturn.

That is according to an official from the Trades Union Congress (TUC), who was speaking following the publication of a report by IRIS Accounting & Business Solutions last week (December 6th 2010).

This research found that an increasing number of management officials at organisations are scrutinising the productivity levels and behaviour of their employees due to the financial pressures of the recession.

However, Paul Sellers, policy officer at the TUC, stated that this is completely unacceptable, as such practices will serve only to "generate resentment, which will result in lower productivity".

Mr Sellers stated that the best way to deal with these concerns is to "involve and engage staff … ideally through the union or workplace representatives", as this could avoid any employer-employee animosity.
