Report: Job placements increased in December 2010 Appointments for office-based roles such as accountancy jobs in the City of London and throughout the rest of the UK grew last month, new statistics have suggested.

According to the latest Report of Jobs by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG, which has been published today (January 12th 2011), both permanent and temporary staff billings continued to rise throughout December 2010, with full-time appointments remaining "solid".

Furthermore, demand for permanent employees from organisations across all sectors also increased in the same time period, with vacancies in this area going up at their sharpest rate in four months.

These figures could be an indication that the country's jobs market is returning to health and Bernard Brown, partner and head of services at KPMG, noted: "The latest data suggests again that the UK job market is on the road to recovery as growth of permanent placements remained solid and demand for staff rose strongly."

Meanwhile, David Frost, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce, recently welcomed David Cameron's pledge to make recruitment easier for small and medium-sized enterprises.
