Some workers in office-based roles such as receptionist jobs would be left "even more exposed" if the government decided to implement the new employers' charter it is reportedly considering. That is the view of Carolyn Jones, director of the Institute of Employment Rights (IER), who has said that this would dilute current employee rights in the UK as it represents a "charter of constraints" that would leave vulnerable workers even more exposed. Ms Jones was speaking after the Daily Telegraph published an article earlier this week (January 9th 2011) stating that the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance is considering measures such as doubling the amount of time an individual needs to have been with a company to be eligible to file a complaint for unfair dismissal from one year to two years. She described this as "removed from reality" and noted that "Britain already has the weakest employment laws in Europe, leaving UK workers vulnerable and exposed to the whims of bad employer practices".
