Employers 'looking for language skills' Employers recruiting for office-based roles such as accountancy jobs in the City of London are more likely to hire candidates who can converse in a foreign language, an expert has suggested.

According to Teresa Tinsley, director of planning, delivery and communications at the National Centre of Languages, there is evidence to suggest that "more and more" organisations "want languages and cultural skills and the international savvy that language learning brings".

This trend may be due to the fact that the country's business landscape is becoming more international in the aftermath of the global economic downturn, meaning that firms are now more likely to have to deal with overseas clients.

Meanwhile, the latest Report of Jobs by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG, which was published earlier this month (January 12th 2011), showed that both permanent and temporary staff appointments continued to rise throughout December 2010 as the country continued to emerge from the effects of the recession.
