Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offering roles such as accountancy jobs in the City of London and across the rest of the UK may be well advised to allow their employees to enjoy the benefits of flexible working policies. That is if comments made by Gill Trevelyan, head of good practice services at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) are anything to go by, as she believes that both workers and organisations can experience "far reaching" bonuses from such practices. "Flexible patterns of work can help to meet customer needs, maximise the available labour and help employees achieve a better work-life balance," she explained. Ms Trevelyan's comments came after the publication of a report by Demos earlier this week (January 16th 2011), which stated that stressful jobs and inflexible hours can have a negative impact on parenting. Therefore, she added, allowing flexible working can improve both productivity and the happiness of employees. Posted by James Strang
