Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offering office-based positions such as accountancy jobs in the City of London may struggle if the duty prices of fuel continue to increase in the UK, it has been suggested.According to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), such organisations could be forced to take measures such as freezing salaries and reducing their investment in new products and services should this trend continue. This comes after the body conducted a survey of more than 400 companies and found that 89 per cent of them would be hit with charges of up to £2,000 in addition to their regular outgoings as a result of this over the next six months. Meanwhile, 62 per cent stated that they will have to increase their prices, with 78 per cent indicating that their profitability will be cut. In related news, Andrew Gotch, fellow at the Chartered Institute of Taxation, remarked recently that SMEs are struggling with the British tax system at the moment. Posted by Daniel Frost
