The government must do more to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) capitalise on the possible benefits of investing in the international marketplace. That is according to a spokeswoman from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), who has said that this sector offers "good potential" for growth in the wake of the global economic downturn and should therefore be taken advantage of. She went on to explain that exporting represents a "potential driver for economic growth" following the recession and stated that SMEs are eager to make sure they get involved, but require further assistance from the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance to do so. However, the FSB official explained that "red tape and bureaucracy" is limiting their ability to trade effectively overseas, meaning that the administration should make efforts to reduce this burden. Meanwhile, Diana Bruce, policy advisor at the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals, said recently that non-cash benefits need to be implemented by employers. Posted by James Strang
