It is crucial for managers of organisations such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the City of London to make sure they are communicating fully with their workers following the global economic downturn. That is according to Ben Willmot, senior public policy adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, who has highlighted the importance of strong and supportive management from senior staff as employees remain concerned about the impact the recession will have on their positions. "Employers need to deliver consistently high quality leadership and management on the front line. How managers communicate, consult and coach and develop staff is critical," he remarked. Mr Willmot went on to stress that any company failing to recognise this may find that they are left lagging behind their competitors in the near future, meaning that managers must seek to fully engage their staff in any plans for change. Meanwhile, John Cridland of the Confederation of British Industry stated recently that several employment laws are harming businesses. Posted by Daniel Frost
