Anyone seeking roles such as accountancy jobs in the City of London or throughout the rest of the UK may be pleased to note that salary increases are likely to become more common again in the near future. That is the view of Andrew Goodwin, senior economic advisor to the Ernst & Young ITEM Club, who has said that although 2011 is likely to hold "little respite" for employees, the following year will see a pick-up in wages. Mr Goodwin noted that the first half of 2012 will witness widespread pay growth as the UK's wider economy continues its post-recession recovery. "As the recovery gains greater traction, we should see pay settlements gradually begin to pick up, and by the first half of next year we would expect to see wages rising again in real terms," he added. This comes after Frances O'Grady of the Trades Union Congress commented recently that pay deals will have to be improved to aid the country's economic rejuvenation. Posted by James Strang
