It is becoming more important for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the City of London and throughout the rest of the UK to focus on their search presence within their local area. That is the view of Jake Hird, senior research analyst at Econsultancy, who has said that refining their search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy in order to include more localised results could be crucial in the aftermath of the worldwide monetary slump. Mr Hird explained that being listed on "things like Google Maps and Google Places" represents a vital way in which such firms can attract business in the wake of the recession. "If I had a small local business I'd definitely be focusing on optimising localised content as opposed to wider SEO content," he noted. This comes after MerchantCircle showed recently that smaller, local companies are not yet taking full advantage of marketing methods such as social media. Posted by Daniel Frost
